ACHIEVING SUCCESS IN LIFE AND GODLINESS

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3
Sometimes ago, I was in a Mentoring programme with a group of young people who asked questions on how they can achieve significant success in their life endeavours. Today, I will share with you a few of the answers given at that forum:
To succeed, you must think. Proverbs 23:7 says, ‘For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.’ What are the contents of your thoughts? Your thought life will determine your success story. Challenge your brain; engage your mind, be creative. Question the status quo. Don’t stop at traditions, challenge the tradition. When given a task, don’t just do things; put thoughts to it. Make thinking part of your daily routine. Think and write.
Talents are important! Talent is an innate and inherent gift, an endowment from God. It is necessary for successful completion of your tasks. A talented or gifted person will do better than those who are not, especially when refined and used with discipline. Talent will give you visibility and prominence. What is your talent? What do you naturally do without much effort? Discover that and refine it for greatness.
Get trained and train others. To become proficient in your duty, there is need for training. Go for training in your area of specialty. When you do this, you learn from the masters and improve on your skills. As a leader, don’t put people in positions of leadership until they are trained. Train people on the ethos and the values of the institution. Recruit, retrain and retain. Train your staff, train your children. Get trained in godly things. Apostle Paul told Timothy, ‘Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:7–8 NLT).
Watch out for the Right Timing. There is nothing as wonderful as an idea that has met its time; it simply blossoms. So it is with life; there are certain things that you can miss out if you miss your timing. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, ‘There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.’ Greatness is right timing. Blessed are the people who have not missed their timing.
We will continue this discussion next week. I wish you a highly successful week as you put your mind to work, think great thoughts and act on your desired goals. God bless you.
